Family Room Before and After

I love inspiration! Looking through photos of homes, decor, crafts, etc... I could do that for hours. Seriously.

But, there is work to be done. While I'm still pecking away at the bathroom and bedroom projects, here are a few photos that will hopefully inspire you.

Welcome to my family room.
It's been through many changes over the years.

This is the most recent BEFORE.

I enjoyed this and I kept it this way for a long time.

But, we had to make a change.

The TV sits on the wall across from the couch, and the heat from it was interfering with the thermostat. It was a pain.

Now that I think about it, most of the time when I make changes, I'm trying to solve a problem.

So we moved it across the room.
And now we have this.

I painted the walls white and I made a few changes here and there.

Throwback...

The TV once sat inside this bookcase we used to have on this wall. I didn't like the bookcase and we finally put sheet rock over it. This was many years ago.

I remember back in the day when my home was gold and my furniture was burgandy, green, and navy.

And everything was all oakified...

And my babies were still babies...

A lot has changed since those days. This cutie on the couch is now 16, and she's amazing.

Notice the screen, it blocks the view of the kids bathroom. Problem solved.

The clock, the chair, the lamps, the screen, the coffee table, and even the bird cage, all came from a thrift store.

I am a thrift store junkie.

I am not ashamed.

I still want to make changes... paint the TV stand, change the shelving behind the love seat to something less busy and to declutter a bit.

I love changing things up.

My husband and I also made photo ledges to go on the wall that the TV used to be on. In a future post, I'll show you how to make them.

This is the walkway behind the couch.

The photo ledge makes a statement without taking up too much room. I want to take the time and really style it, but for now, this is what it looks like.

As always, I appreciate you stopping by and I hope you find something that inspires you today!

  2. I think we all had our navy, burgundy and Hunter green days, didn't we? I remember them well! I am a sister thrift store junkie from w-a-y back. Love the changes you have made, Sherry!

  3. Sherry your home is beautiful. I know what you mean about moving and rearranging because of a problem or a need. That seems to be the same will me and probably with most of us. That and keeping our husbands happy. My husband has his place to sit and he wants it his way. He reminds me of the Dad on Frasier and his old recliner, LOL. I love him and want him happy so I put up with his little area . . . sometimes I tell people to just look at the rest of the room because that is Steve's happy place :) I love that wall of picture shelves. It's wonderful :)

  5. Wow it looks terrific, I love the white and tan color combo, so fresh and clean looking! It is so hard to figure out how to decorate around these big TV's now. It's wonderful how so many of your things came from a thrift store. I think it is thrilling to find something wonderful at a Thrift store that goes with your home so perfectly! Love your photo ledge, great idea!!

  8. Oh my gosh, I just cracked up on the way before photo - those were the days, hm? My house was full of wallpaper. I finally tore it all out except the dining room one I redid in a neutral stripe. And the hunter green color scheme is long gone (I still like color but give me neutral walls please)!
