Family Room Before and After

I love inspiration! Looking through photos of homes, decor, crafts, etc... I could do that for hours. Seriously.

But, there is work to be done. While I'm still pecking away at the bathroom and bedroom projects, here are a few photos that will hopefully inspire you.

Welcome to my family room.
It's been through many changes over the years.

This is the most recent BEFORE.

I enjoyed this and I kept it this way for a long time.

But, we had to make a change.

The TV sits on the wall across from the couch, and the heat from it was interfering with the thermostat. It was a pain.

Now that I think about it, most of the time when I make changes, I'm trying to solve a problem.

So we moved it across the room.
And now we have this.

I painted the walls white and I made a few changes here and there.

Throwback...

The TV once sat inside this bookcase we used to have on this wall. I didn't like the bookcase and we finally put sheet rock over it. This was many years ago.

I remember back in the day when my home was gold and my furniture was burgandy, green, and navy.

And everything was all oakified...

And my babies were still babies...

A lot has changed since those days. This cutie on the couch is now 16, and she's amazing.

Notice the screen, it blocks the view of the kids bathroom. Problem solved.

The clock, the chair, the lamps, the screen, the coffee table, and even the bird cage, all came from a thrift store.

I am a thrift store junkie.

I am not ashamed.

I still want to make changes... paint the TV stand, change the shelving behind the love seat to something less busy and to declutter a bit.

I love changing things up.

My husband and I also made photo ledges to go on the wall that the TV used to be on. In a future post, I'll show you how to make them.

This is the walkway behind the couch.

The photo ledge makes a statement without taking up too much room. I want to take the time and really style it, but for now, this is what it looks like.

As always, I appreciate you stopping by and I hope you find something that inspires you today!

My Newly Painted Bed Frame and a New Rug.

Several years ago, I decided to paint my bed.

I was scared. This was not cheap furniture. It was gifted to us from my husband's parents.

What if I messed it up...

Will I have regrets?

I took a deep breath and made up a batch of homemade chalk paint.

And I did it! I've never looked back.

Well... until today.

I decided to paint my bed black. I really like the wrought iron black beds you see everywhere, but I really don't want a new bed.

I like my bed.

I wanted the headboard to be nice and smooth, so I scraped and sanded and scraped and sanded some more, until I had this.

I love the chippy white paint with the wood showing through, and I almost went in that direction.

I get distracted easily.

But, I stayed on task and painted the bed black.

The color is called Black Magic. I picked up a gallon on clearance at Lowe's for $5.00. The brand is Olympic.

I love when the clearance paint happens to be a good color. It's a semi gloss. I primed first and then painted.

Notice we changed out the narrow side boards with these wider ones.

This is how we attached them to the bed frame.

I really like that the box springs are now covered. That always bothered me. Problem solved.

I found this rug on clearance at Walmart. It reminds me of Jute or burlap, and the price was great for a large rug. It actually feels good underfoot too.

I used these $5 sheets for curtains. Sheets are a good choice if you don't want to spend a lot and you need longer curtains.

And here is what I have so far...

It's still a work in progress, and I can't wait to show you the rest of the room. Have a great day!

Thank you for stopping by.

Master Bedroom Throwbacks and a New Floor

Today I'm sharing my bedroom makeover.

And how many times have I said that...

Many times!

But this time, we ripped out the carpet and put down hardwood floors!

First, let us look back and reminisce...

Wow.

Just wow! Remember the red bathroom with the brown accents?

Well, here's the red bedspread. And the brown curtains. And the brown furniture.

And a futon at the end of the bed. I have no idea!

Clearly, I was trying.

And then the whole beach thing...

This was good. I should have stayed with this. All the neutrals that I love!

Why didn't I stay with that?

But I had the great idea to paint everything blue, and I painted all the furniture hardware silver and added pops of green.

Again, trying to lighten things up.

And trying to like color.

And then there was gray.

As I type this, I realize how understanding my husband is. I won't mention the one day I painted the living room and put everything back before he got home from work, and he didn't notice until several weeks later.

We won't mention that.

These are recent BEFORE pics of the bedroom.

I do love the white walls. So many people say it's clean looking... and yes, it is, even when it's not.

Speaking of not...
Here's the real deal of makeovers.

I'm slowly getting the mess cleaned up and things put back. Now that you've seen the befores, I'll show you one project at the time as I get them done.

Fast forward to new hardwood floors.

I have a clean slate here.

So much left to do but I'm really excited!

Thank you for stopping by and remind yourself that you're doing great! At least you haven't painted your bedroom 10 times only to come back to the color white.

Have a Blessed day!

Master Bathroom Throwbacks and a New Floor

My home provides me with the creative outlet that I crave. Blogging my projects helps to hold me accountable from start to finish. By sharing with you, hopefully, I can inspire and encourage while making new friends along the way. Oh, and we have birds! Lots of birds, and I'll share that too.

To kick off my first post, I thought I'd share some really old photos of our master bathroom.

We've just installed new floors, and I can't wait to show you!

 But first ...

I thought it would be fun to look back and see a few of the different paint colors and styles I've had over the years.

Yep, that is red. Actually, I loved this color for a time.

The rest of the house was gold. Think Tuscan.

I remember having the hardest time deciding on an accent color.

I went with brown. (my youngest daughter belly laughed when she read this). Why is brown funny?

Now this looks really dark and really red...

with a side order of brown.

My season of all things beach related.

Maybe I was thinking Staycation?

Then there was the time I painted my entire house blue.

Every. single. room.

Funny thing is I don't even like the color blue that much.

But I do like to paint.

I tell you this to help someone out there feel better about themselves.

Sometimes I look back and wonder what was I thinking.

All the trials and errors helped me find my style so I guess it's all good.

Here I was getting closer to finding the style that fits me best.

I love white walls.

I discovered that I love neutral colors, contrast, textures, and wood tones.

Fast forward to now

Here is a recent BEFORE photo.

We lived with carpet in our bathroom for 23 years.

23 years!

Carpet in a bathroom is NOT a good idea.

Words can't express how happy I am to see it go!

Here's my youngest son pulling staples out of the floor.

We also had to remove particle board from the closets. Have you ever removed particle board? It reminds me of graham crackers, and it comes up in little pieces...

Not fun.

We contemplated getting rid of the tub because we hardly ever use it.

In the end we decided to keep it and take the bottom step off because that was my biggest complaint. It was difficult to step over to open the blinds.

Removing the step was messy.

We are building a new panel for the front of the tub.

My husband is my very own Chip Gaines. I tell him what I want, and he builds it for me.

What a blessing!

We have separate vanities.

It's a wonderful thing for a marriage!

I plan to update the cabinets by painting, adding new hardware, and replace the faucets.

I'm glad we had this little bit of tile on the floor in front of our shower, so I had the chance to see if I liked it or not.

I'm not a fan.

Here's a sneak peek of our new floor. It's sheet vinyl.

We had this same floor in a different pattern put in our kitchen a few years ago. It's easy to keep clean, so I knew I wanted it in our bathroom as well.

I love how pretty the afternoon sun reflects onto the new floor.

Cue happy dance.

The Lord knows how long I've wanted to get rid of the carpet, and I am beyond thankful for this new floor. I'm reminded how God cares even about the little things in our lives...

If it matters to us, it matters to Him.

I'm excited to finally get some projects done and share them with you.

Thank you so much my friend for stopping by
